Woman Faces Legal Trouble for Not Reporting Sexual Abuse

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
A woman in a southern state was arrested by authorities for failing to report the sexual abuse of a teenager. In the woman's state, it is a crime to be aware of the sexual abuse of a minor and not report the situation to the proper authorities. The woman could face up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine for her omission.

According to investigators, the 40-year-old woman was told by a 16-year-old girl that the girl was being sexually abused about two months ago. The woman's failure to report this knowledge resulted in the woman's arrest, though the man who is suspected of sexually abusing the teenager has not yet been arrested. According to authorities, the 40-year-old woman spent about two hours in jail before she was released on bond. It is currently unclear whether authorities will seek the maximum penalty for the woman's failure to report the sexual abuse.
