Man Claims He Was Abused as an Altar Boy

Another lawsuit was filed this week against the Catholic Church based on decades-old claims of clergy abuse.

According to the suit filed in Yakima, Washington this week, the victim was abused by an associate pastor when he was a 15-year-old altar boy. While the suit does not name the actual priest as a defendant since he is no longer an active clergy member and his whereabouts are unknown, the suit does list the diocese as the defendant.

This is not the first lawsuit filed against this diocese, but the fifth in recent years. The church covers a seven-county area that serves more than 80,000 parishioners. Since the church supposedly gave the former assistant pastor unfettered access to the youth parishioners, it has been named as the main defendant in the case.
