New Hampshire Priest Facing Two Counts of Sexual Assault

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Yet another case of clergy abuse makes its way to the newsreels this week as a priest in New Hampshire finds himself charged with two counts of felony sexual assault.

The suspect, a 78-year-old male from Marblehead, was arrested after a two-month investigation uncovered the truth behind his activities in the late 1980s. Although little is known about the crimes or the victims, it is known that the suspect was not working as a priest in New Hampshire at that time but was there visiting as a guest. He did, however, spend time as a minister at a local church from 1971 to 1975.

Officers took the priest into custody at his home in Marblehead at the end of June. He was then extradited to New Hampshire to face the two counts of clergy abuse. He was later released on $25,000 bond but is expected back at the Hillsborough County Superior Court next week.

Before he was arrested by local authorities, the priest was removed from the priesthood by the church after the rumors of sexual abuse surfaced.  Rather than endure a church trial, the suspect resigned voluntarily, sending his notice to the state's Diocese.
