Former Priest Listed in Clergy Abuse Lawsuit

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Another clergy abuse lawsuit was filed this year by a former altar boy against a retired priest.

According to the suit, the diocese is listed as the party responsible for the clergy abuse. Since it failed to protect the altar boy, now a man in his forties, the suit was filed against the diocese. In his lawsuit, the victim goes on to state that the church not only knew about the abuse, but conspired to cover it up so as to prevent reprisal. The victim would have been fourteen at the time he was allegedly abused by the priest, who reportedly performed oral sex on him, as well as other forms of molestation over time.

The priest in question served at a local church from 1983 to 1984.While this is the first charge of clergy abuse that has been taken to court against the man, he did plead no contest to contributing to the delinquency of a minor in 2004. However, that charge was later reduced by prosecutors overseeing the case.

If you or someone close you has been exposed to sexual abuse by a clergy member, it is important that you discuss the incidents with a clergy abuse lawyer as soon as possible.  In some cases, a lawsuit can be filed to collect damages for the victim's pain and suffering.  To learn more, contact the Zalkin Law Firm today.
