Lawsuit Filed Against Priest for Clergy Abuse

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
A man, claiming clergy abuse in his youth, has now won a settlement against the perpetrator and the parish in which he used to preach.

Father Phillip DeRea has been charged with abusing a young boy over a period of eight years and now faces serious jail time if convicted. According to the suit filed against Father DeRea and the Society of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Aurora, the man "was not aware that the sexual abuse was affecting his life - or even that he had suffered sexual abuse at the hands of Father DeRea - until 2006."  It goes on to say that an incident involving his son triggered the long-repressed memories.

The priest, now associated with IndyCar racing among other things, claims to have sought professional help for his actions. In fact, he is even reported to have sent money to the plaintiff in an attempt to keep him quiet about the clergy abuse.

Have you been the victim of clergy abuse?  If so, now is the time to take a stand by contacting our law firm and discussing your options with a clergy abuse lawyer.
