Illinois Teacher Accused of Sex Abuse

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Another teacher has been accused of student sex abuse, this time in Carmi, Illinois.

Haven A. Kirkpatrick, 29, was fired last week from her position of tenured physical education teacher at the Fairfield Community High School. She was already suspended with pay after being accused of having unlawful contact with a 17-year-old student at her school. School board members voted unanimously to remove her when the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services confirmed the sexual abuse reports.

Kirkpatrick's name has now been added to an internal sex offender registry that can be accessed by schools, as well as any organization that hires individuals who will be in contact with children. Jeff Funk, the district's attorney, went on to say that Kirkpatrick "is suspended immediately without pay, but has the right to request a hearing through the State Board of Education." She now has to worry about the criminal trial that will soon start regarding her sex abuse charges. The state will be represented by Michael Valentine, the Edwards County State's Attorney.
