Man Charged with Murder and Elder Abuse after Death of His Mother

In the city of Santa Ana, California, a man who was convicted of attempted murder last year has now been charged with murder.  49 year old Robert Char was arrested after he allegedly beat his mother with a shovel.

Prosecutors in Orange County report that Chare was charged on Wednesday with one felony count of murder and will be subjected to a sentencing enhancement for use of a deadly weapon.   Char is supposed to be arraigned this week.

In July 2010, Char pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted murder.  He was sentenced to nine years for that charge and to six years for additional charges of elder abuse and resisting arrest.  According to Char, he and his mother become involved in an altercation about chores that needed to be done in the household.

After the beating, the elderly woman was placed in the hospital where she later died in December.
