In Farmington, Utah, it has been reported that state district attorneys plan to recommend prison treatment for a 62-year-old teacher who pled guilty to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female student. The teacher, James D. Stokes, worked at a Woods Cross charter school as a drama teacher before he was charged with abusing the minor.
On Monday, he pled guilty to second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse. Another count of a similar charge was dismissed by prosecutors and sentencing has been scheduled for April 4, 2011.
According to Deputy Davis County Attorney Richard Larsen, prosecutors will ask that the judge send the defendant to a correctional facility for treatment.
Following his arrest, Stokes was fired from his position at Legacy Preparatory Academy. Police say that the girl told officers Stokes gave her rides from school and would fondle her.
