This week, the Associated Press reported that a lawyer from the Boston area that represented many clergy sex abuse victims released a list of accused abusers. While releasing the list, the attorney said it was time to "end the secrecy".
News sources say that the list includes previously undisclosed names of 19 Catholic priests, brothers and one deacon who were amongst those accused in cases handled by the lawyer's Boston law firm. The cases were allegedly settled with the Church for tens of millions of dollars.
16 of the 19 on the list are dead and none of the people mentioned were tried or convicted of a crime. The lawyer said that he had released the names because he wanted to protect the public and help his clients heal from their abuse.
