In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a clergy abuse case has stayed needed due to settlement talks between the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and 24 plaintiffs.
In a letter on the Archdiocesan website, Archbishop Jerome Listecki announced that the lawyers representing the plaintiffs had rejected a $4.6 million settlement that was offered. In response, a spokesperson for the survivors of the sex abuse said that money is not their primary motivation.
During an interview, Archbishop Jerome Listecki said that the demands made by the victims were met. He said, "There is no priest who has a substantiated allegation against him who is functioning in any way in any ministry in the Archdiocese."
However, Peter Isley, director of the midwest chapter of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests has called for public postings of the sexual offenders' names. He told news sources, "We're here today to urge the Archbishop to go back into talks with these victims and their attorney."
According to the victims in the case, the Archdiocese defrauded them by moving the accused priests from parish to parish without letting the community know about their past sexual abuse.
