Former Pastor Re-Arrested for Sex Abuse

In Eureka, California, news sources report that a former pastor who was previously accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl who was left in his care has pled not guilty to charges involving a second child in Northern California.

49-year-old Dino Cardelli entered his not guilty plea on Wednesday after being charged with three additional counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts with children under the age of 14.  Cardelli, who is a former pastor, a widower and foster parent, was already charged with the sexual abuse of a girl who had lived with him.  In his prior case, he pled not guilty to four counts of child molestation.

Cardelli served as a pastor at Arcata's evangelical Calvary Chapel for 15 years.  Last month, he formally resigned after he was released on bail.  On Wednesday, he was placed under arrest by investigators for a second time after he violated a court order that required him to stay away from all of his foster children.

Police say they interviewed at least three children who had been left in the care of Cardelli.  Two of the girls, one of whom is the victim of the recent molestation charges, told police that Cardelli beat two other foster children who were supposedly mentally handicapped.
