In Charlotte, North Carolina, it is reported that a Catholic Diocese has agreed to pay a sexual abuse victim $1 million. The victim, who is now 25 years of age, claims that a Catholic priest sexually abused him while he was an altar boy in 1999 at Charlotte's St. Matthew Catholic Church.
In addition to the $1 million settlement, the Catholic Diocese offered to pay for the man's counseling. Prior to filing his lawsuit, the victim claimed that while he was an altar boy, he was molested by Rev. Robert Yurgel. Last year, Yurgel was sentenced to 8 years in prison after he pled guilty to charges of second degree sex offense.
Diocese officials claimed that until 2008, they had no information about allegations of Rev. Yurgel's sexual abuse and misconduct.
