A sex abuse claim against a Priest, Richard McCormick, 68, was settled with three men who claimed the priest abused them when they were children reports lohud.com. The priest was a well-known former head of the Salesian of John Bosco Order in the Eastern Province, which manages the Salesians in both eastern Canada and the United States. The Order is based in New Rochelle. McCormick was once head of the Marian Shrine in Stony Point.
Each of the alleged victims claims that Father Richard McCormick molested them as children, with fondling and other inappropriate sexual acts. McCormick resigned from teaching at a St. Petersburg Catholic High School in Florida in 2002 when he was accused by a young female student who claimed that McCormick greeted her with a hug and a kiss in a school hallway.
The three victims, who each claim they were molested in the 1970's at the now-closed Salesian Junior Seminary in Goshen, New York. Each of the three men received a "six-figure" settlement from the Salesian Order. McCormick has been suspended from the ministry while a review by the Order proceeds. Recently, three others have come forward with further allegations of sexual abuse by McCormick.
