Bridgeport Diocese Wants Priest Abuse Documents Kept Under Seal

| No TrackBacks

The U.S. Supreme Court has been asked by the Bridgeport Catholic Diocese to keep under seal 12,600 pages of documents including depositions, exhibits and other legal documents related to 23 sexual abuse lawsuits involving 7 priests in their diocese, reports courant.com.  All of the lawsuits were earlier settled for undisclosed amounts.  Part of the agreement was that these documents would remain sealed.  However, several news organizations filed a lawsuit to have the information released.  The documents include depositions from the bishop at the time, Edward Egan, which may expose how the clergy abuse claims were dealt with by Catholic Church leaders.  The state Supreme Court has already twice ruled that these documents should be released, and the Catholic Church has now taken the case to the U.S. Supreme Court in a final bid to keep the documents sealed.

If you or a family member was victimized by a priest or other church personnel and has suffered clergy abuse, you need the assistance of a clergy abuse attorney.  The legal team at the Zalkin Law Firm has successfully gained fair compensation for countless victims of this horrible crime.
