The Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport has lost a battle to keep under seal 2,000 pages of documents regarding 20 lawsuits against priests, reports nbcconnecticut.com. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg made the ruling to deny the Catholic Diocese's request to keep the documents sealed while the high court decides whether to make a ruling on the case. The documents are expected to reveal the details on how retired New York Cardinal Edward Egan handled priest abuse allegations while he was serving as bishop of the Bridgeport Diocese. He served in this capacity from 1988 - 2000. The Bridgeport Diocese is considering whether to ask all nine justices to rule on the request to keep the documents sealed, and is intent on fighting to keep the contents from being revealed.
