Baltimore Convicted Catholic School Rapist Asks for Release

| No TrackBacks

It is reported by wjz.com that former Catholic schoolteacher John Merzbacher who is serving a life sentence for rape and child abuse has gone before a judge asking to be released.  He was convicted in 1995, and a number of his students had come forward after years of silence to help the prosecution.  He was convicted of raping a 10 year old girl numerous times at the Catholic Community Middle School, in a storage closet.

Merzbacher, the convicted rapist, now claims that he wasn't told by his lawyer about a possible plea bargain of 10 years in prison for admitting guilt in the crime.  At the time he claimed he was innocent.  The claim is that since he wasn't told by his lawyer, and would have accepted the plea bargain, he has now spent over 10 years in jail and should be released.  The judge will rule on the case sometime in September.  The victim of the crime, now an adult, is dismayed by this turn of events.
