A lawsuit has been filed against Washington state reports seattlepi.com. The plaintiff alleges that child services placed him in a Kent boarding school which has since been the target of several clergy abuse lawsuits. The man alleges that as a child, social services placed him in the Briscoe Memorial School for Boys after he was removed from his parents custody.
During his time at the school the man claims that he was sexually abused and that the state should have known that this would occur when he was sent there. The claim is that Social Services had been aware that abuse was taking place at the school. This was a Catholic Church orphanage that has been sued by numerous past students for clergy abuse. In each of the lawsuits, the plaintiffs claim that they were physically and sexually abused over and over by both staff and other students.
The earlier lawsuits were filed against the Seattle Archdiocese and the Christian Brothers order. This suit targets the state itself for having allowed this to happen. The man, who was sent to the school in 1959 is asking for compensation for damages suffered while he was attending the school. It is claimed that the state was aware of the abuse and allowed the man, then a child, to be sent to the orphanage anyway.
