Maine Supreme Court Rules on Clergy Abuse Case

| No TrackBacks

The Bangor Daily News reports that a ruling by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court on Tuesday means that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland is not immune to a lawsuit by an Augusta man.  The man claims to have been a victim of clergy abuse when a priest molested him as a child.  He also claims that the Diocese knew that that priest had been accused of sexually abusing other children in the past at a different parish.

The victim, who is now 35, claims that a priest named Rev. Raymond Melville sexually abused him between 1986 and 1988 when the priest worked at St. Mary Catholic Church and School in Augusta.  The suit claims that the diocese knew that Melville had been accused of molesting children in the past but hid the information of the alleged clergy abuse from the parishioners.

If you or a loved one has experienced clergy abuse in the past, it is important to contact a clergy abuse attorney.  The legal team of clergy abuse attorneys at the Zalkin Law Firm are dedicated to bringing these crimes to light and getting the victims the compensation they so truly deserve.
