The Fresno Bee reported that Fresno County Superior Court Judge Donald Black has made an important ruling in a priest sex abuse case against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno.
Howard Santillan is one of two brothers who lost a civil sex abuse suit against the Diocese of Fresno this year. According to the article, Judge Black has ruled that a new trial can proceed with new evidence that shows that the diocese may have known about the molestation that Santillan suffered between 1959 and 1973 at St. John's Catholic Church in Wasco. Santillan and his brother lost their previous suit because the jury ruled that church officials did not know about the abuse.
The judge has ruled that only Howard Santillan can file for a new trial.
