Connecticut Court Unseals Clergy Abuse Documents

| No TrackBacks

A Connecticut news site reported recently on the fact that the Connecticut Supreme Court has made an important ruling regarding documents filed in more than 20 sexual abuse suits aginst the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport.  The court has decided that the documents will be unsealed.

The priest abuse lawsuits were filed against the Bridgeport Diocese in the 1990s and the judge handling the case sealed the related documents until a jury could be selected.  However, the cases were all settled without trial in 2001.

The documents that will be released regarding these childhood clergy abuse cases add up to over 12,600 pages and will be available to the public.

Clergy abuse is an insidious and abhorrent crime.  If you or someone you know has suffered sexual abuse as a child, please contact a clergy abuse lawyer at the Zalkin Law Firm as soon as possible.  The sooner you are aware of your legal rights, the sooner you could be able to take action against your abuser.
