Clergy Abuse Suit Filed on Baltimore Archdiocese

| No TrackBacks

A man in his 40's has filed a suit against the Baltimore Archdiocese that alleges that he was a victim of sexual abuse by a priest when he was 12 years old, reports the Baltimore Sun.  The lawsuit claims that the victim suffered the sexual abuse for five years.  The plaintiff in the lawsuit claims that the priest, a Reverend Michael L. Barnes, gave him alcohol and pornography and had committed acts of mutual masturbation with the boy as well as performing oral sex on him.

The sexual abuse took place, according to the suit, while the boy was a student at the St. Clare School in Essex.  It is claimed that the school and the Archdiocese were aware of the priest's history and other claims of clergy abuse involving Reverend Barnes.  The priest left the priesthood in 1988 but has continued to work for the Church in a lay position in Rockville.
