Newspapertree.com reported on an El Paso sexual abuse case between a former altar boy and the El Paso diocese. The case was dismissed by a county judge, but after the judge's connections to the Catholic church were determined to be too close and effectively causing a possible bias, the judge voluntarily removed himself from the case.
The new judge, visiting District Judge Stephen Ables, set aside the dismissal.
The plaintiff is suing the diocese anonymously as John Doe. He alleges that he was sexually abused by the deceased Father James Hay at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in El Paso. The abuse occurred in the 1960s.
