Monterey Diocese Accused of Mishandling Clergy Abuse Lawsuit

| No TrackBacks

A local news site reported that a hearing for a lawsuit against the Monterey Catholic Diocese will be this Friday.  The diocese is accused of making mistakes when handling cases of clergy abuse by a man from Monterey (who wished to remain anonymous). The survivor of sexual abuse said the following: "A diocese official told my parents, 'He was not the first kid this happened to and it's not the last.  He'll be fine and he'll forget about it.'"

The court records also state that the plaintiff's mother was laughed at when she tried to receive money for counseling for her son.

The priests named in this particular case are Father Juan Gillien and Father Juan Velez.  Gillien is currently serving prison time for molesting boys in Arizona.  Velez was never charged, but his whereabouts are unknown.

If you are considering filing a lawsuit against a priest or diocese for their involvement in sexual abuse that you survived, please don't hesitate to contact an experienced clergy abuse lawyer at the Zalkin Law Firm.  Their skilled and knowledgeable attorneys have helped numerous individuals who have suffered priest abuse.
