Minnesota Clergy Abuse Survivor Angered

| No TrackBacks

The Duluth News Tribune reported a story about Robert J., a man who survived sexual abuse at the hands of a Catholic priest for many years.  Robert was deeply angered when he heard of letters recently released showing that bishops were aware of some sexually abusive priests.

Robert was sexually assaulted and abused between the years of 1955 and 1958 when Reverend "Mark" would visit, have dinner and even stay the night at his family's home.  After the priest was transferred to a different parish, he would still come visit Robert's family.  These extended stays opened the door to continued sexual abuse and criminally indecent behavior.

Despite the fact that the abuse has had a lasting effect on Robert, he has tried to move on with his life - that is, until he learned that the diocese may have been aware of the abuse that he suffered as a young child.  After reading that it was common practice to transfer priests from one area to another after accusations of abuse had been raised, Robert wonders if someone in the church knew what Reverend "Mark" was doing to him and possibly to other children.

It turns out, Robert's complaints against the clergyman's behavior were not alone.
