Jury Selection Begins in Sex Abuse Case Against Seattle Archdiocese

| No TrackBacks

Seattlepi.com posted a news story today about a sexual abuse suit that is currently expected to begin jury selection this week.

Four men allege that they were sexually assaulted by former Catholic priest Patrick O'Donnell.  This clergy abuse case is also naming the former Seattle Archbishop and several other individuals who had authority over O'Donnell in the Seattle Archdiocese.

According to the article, O'Donnell was moved from Spokane to St. Paul parish in Seattle after accusations were raised against him of sexual abuse. The four plaintiffs are arguing that former Archbishop Raymond Hunthausen put O'Donnell through sexual predator treatment only to restore his ministerial credentials and privileges a mere six weeks later.  Hunthausen also appointed O'Donnell to a position of authority at a St. Paul parish school, despite knowing about the prior abuse accusations and referring O'Donnell to treatment for his criminal and morally abhorrent behavior.

There is no date yet for opening statements, but the case is progressing.
