Priest Abuse Lawsuit Settled in Florida

| No TrackBacks

An article by Susan Spencer-Wendel of the Palm Beach Post discussed a recent settlement of a sexual abuse case between 53-year-old Kevin Sidaway and the Archdiocese of Miami.

Sidaway settled another priest abuse claim with the Miami Archdiocese in '98 for $900,000, but later sued again with allegations that the Catholic church did not follow through with reforms discussed in the suit and also allegations that he was induced to accept a lower amount of money.

Sidaway's claims against the Reverend Rocco D'Angelo include repeated criminal sexual activity during a trip when Sidaway was 11 years old.  Sidaway came forward about this abuse after he found out that D'Angelo was still a priest in the 1990s and was, in fact, abusing other children.

The amount of the settlement is private, but Sidaway's 1998 lawsuit asked for $3,000,000.
