New York's New Archbishop Weighs in on Clergy Abuse

| No TrackBacks

As reported by CBS, Timothy Dolan was officially appointed as the head of the Catholic Archdiocese of New York today.  Among other questions brought up when the new Archbishop spoke to the media earlier today, Dolan addressed concerns about clergy abuse accusations in the Catholic church.

Dolan said, "I for one feel we need to resist the temptation to say, 'oh good, that's behind us now.'  It isn't behind us.  We have a lot of credibility to regain, we got a lot of trust to re-earn from our people and we still got a lot of victims, survivors and their families out there who are hurting big time and anything I can do to help that, say but the word."

Despite the fact that the newly appointed Archbishop has been criticized for avoiding priest abuse issues, Dolan says, "[T]hose people that said I could have done more or bishops could have done more, they may have a point, and we need to listen to them.  We need all the help we can get, we need all the partners we can get."

If you or someone you know has been sexually abused by a member of the Catholic church, please don't hesitate to contact the Zalkin Law Firm as soon as possible.  Their clergy abuse attorneys are skilled and effective in handling child sexual abuse cases throughout the United States.
