A recent MSNBC article discussed an upcoming report on Catholic priest abuse in the Dublin Archdiocese, which, according to the Archbishop, will "shock us all." The article states that the clergy abuse report will most likely show that thousands of young people were sexually abused between 1975 and 2004.
The research that is expected to show that thousands of Irish children were abused is in the process of compilation by the Dublin Archdiocese Commission of Investigation. This commission was charged in 2006 to investigate clergy sexual abuse cases in the Catholic church between 1975 and 2004. The report should be completed in May and was expected to be released in the summer, however investigations into the Diocese of Cloyne in County Cork may delay the release. Ita Mangan, a member of the commission, stated that "the government is obliged to publish [the report], but not necessarily the next day. It could be further complicated by the fact that we're also inquiring into the Cloyne diocese. It is possible the government would decide to publish the two reports together, which could then be September, October."
The archbishop also said that "the horror of that abuse was not recognized for what it was."
This report surely stands to support what was already known to exist in other dioceses and archdioceses across the United States.
